In Home Dog Boarding

In home dog boarding is a cage free, kennel free alternative to boarding your dog. You can have peace of mind when you go away knowing that your dog is living in our family home with us.

While your dog is here, they receive the following:

  • A daily 5 Km walk on a local trail for dogs that can handle the length, or shorter walks on our own private trail for dogs that need walks kept short
  • Feeding according to your feeding schedule with their own food provided by you (raw food diets are no problem, we have lots of freezer space)
  • Unlimited play time with our other dog guests indoors or outdoors in our 1/4 acre fenced in yard
  • Fresh reverse osmosis spring water to drink and treats throughout the day
  • Lots of individualized attention and cuddles

Your dog has free run of our home just like they do in yours. Their days are filled with lots of exercise, play time, nap time and cuddles. At night, our guests all stay very tired from all the activity and usually sleep very well.

Bookings and Cancellations:

Since we only take a small number of dogs at once, we tend to book up very early. We can sometimes book up months in advance for prime holiday times such as summer, long weekends, Christmas and March Break. Please book your dog in as soon as you know your travel dates to ensure a spot.

We do not have a cancellation policy, however we may require deposits for certain times of the year. We turn down a lot of clients after we're full, so cancellations affect us significantly. If for some reason, you need to cancel your booking, please let us know as far in advance as possible. If you would like to pick your dog up earlier than planned, that's no problem, however, the spot has been booked and we generally do not discount for an early departure.

Drop-offs, Pick-ups & Visits
We are generally very flexible when it comes to dropping off or picking up your dog. Since we are not a kennel we do not set specific times you must drop off or pick up at and will work with you to try to accommodate your needs. We do however, ask that you keep in mind that we are a regular household and have errands that need to be run, dogs that need to be walked, family functions to attend, and other people dropping off and picking up their dogs. For those reasons, any drop offs, pick ups and visits are by appointment only.

We need to know an approximate time that you will be both, dropping off your dog, and picking your dog up. Within an hour timeframe is appreciated - such as between 1 pm and 2 pm. If you are not sure what time you will be arriving due to things like unforseen driving conditions or flight delays, please call or email at least 1 hour prior to your arrival to let us know that you are on your way. That generally gives us enough time that if we are out walking, we can be back in time for your arrival. On the same note, if you are going to be significantly late arriving, please also let us know.

Requirements Of Our Dog Guests

Since we board dogs all together in a home environment, we do have requirements of the dogs that stay with us for the health and safety of our family and other boarding dogs.

We require the following of your dog(s):

  • Your dog must be neutered or spayed
  • Up to date on all vaccinations including Bordetella (aka Kennel Cough) prior to boarding
  • From June 1st until November 1st, your dog must be on a vet prescribed flea and tick preventative such as Revolution or Advantage
  • Must be 100% non aggressive towards other dogs and people
  • Must not be on our restricted breeds list (see left)

I cannot stress the importance enough that your dog has a proven track record of being sociable with other dogs and people. It is essential for being able to provide the type of service that we offer. You can also take comfort in knowing that your dog is vacationing with other dogs here that have been proven very friendly and sociable. Generally, if your dog shows very dominant behaviour at your local dog park, or gets into fights with other dogs (some initial growling is normal), this environment will not be a good fit for your dog. It will be stressful on your dog and other dogs staying in the house.

If you are unsure if your dog is social, or don't know if they will have problems with other dogs, this is not the place to test it out as we have a young child and many other dogs coming and going that we are not willing to put at risk.

Breed Restrictions

We love all breeds of dogs, but unfortunately, due to lots of experience, we have found that not all breeds love our set up here. Therefore, for the safety of our family and our other house guests, we are unable to accept breeds from the following list:

  • German Shepherds
  • Akitas
  • Australian Shepherds
  • Border Collies
  • Pit Bulls
  • Dobermans
  • Many herding breeds, please inquire
  • There may be other breeds that we are cautious of due to past experiences, or may not take that are not on the above list.

We find that we have problems with most herding breeds as they tend to nip at the other dogs (herd them) which causes fights. If you have a mixed breed from the above list that you feel is very submissive and social, please call to discuss.
